One of the many exploratory sketches I've done to try and develop the relationship of "the hero" and "the one they love" for my character design project. I think I've pretty much got the mermaid character's design down, but I'm still working on the hero... I wanted to have contrast in their shapes, the hero is more angular and kind of square and the mermaid is rounded, but I think I'll just round them both off :)critiques are very welcome :) Id love to get a second opinion on these before i got to final
anyone like the design of the blonde mermaid better?

I like the brunette mermaid better. Theres more of a contrast if you leave her with brown hair and her lover blond. I dunno I'd get pretty confuzzeled with two blonds I'd probably see them as one head. So like a human experiment of human and fish mushed together and it going terribly wrong....
hhhmmmmmm about the design thing I usually do what you just described make the dude angular and the girl more rounded. .... maybe make her hips bigger or something like that I dunno.... I like your design

They're both beautiful :)! I think if you're going to have these two characters together, it'd be nice if she or him had the darker hairs so that it contrasts between the two. They're both really nice though! :D I want to see more!
You know I think I like the design of the blonde mermaid's hair better, if you just made it brown or even reddish it would look nice :)

I've always preferred brunettes, don't trust those blondes! -and I'm a blond. Ha!
I think if the brunette had punchier contrast and highlights in her hair like the blond version has, that would help sell her.

As for the brunette, she looks a bit haggard compared to the blonde, so maybe the highlights are a good idea. Actually, I think it's because the brunette has more hair wispies and the blonde's hair is well curled. lol
And if you wanted to add more contrast btw the characters, the first thing I'd suggest is a rounder nose on the mermaid. I don't know, I just seem to like them better :/ Looks sort of innocent and cuter.
