character exploration

One of the many exploratory sketches I've done to try and develop the relationship of "the hero" and "the one they love" for my character design project. I think I've pretty much got the mermaid character's design down, but I'm still working on the hero... I wanted to have contrast in their shapes, the hero is more angular and kind of square and the mermaid is rounded, but I think I'll just round them both off :)

critiques are very welcome :) Id love to get a second opinion on these before i got to final

latest 2011 Life Drawing

I wasnt able to do much extra life drawing for a few months because of the tendinitis, but now that i'm feeling much better I've managed to fit in a few extra sessions this week! I feel like I've had very little progress this year in terms of my life drawing abilities, but now that I'm able to life draw again, I hope I'll improve by leaps and bounds! I'm really enjoying costume sessions, and I LOVE drawing drapery now :) I cant wait to get back into improving my technical skills!

Veggies

I made these veggies as a gift for my friend Maya! They were inspired by her Story boarding project about vegetables in a grocery store. Below is my design for the human lipsynch assignment, which was also inspired by the sketches on maya's blog :)

Hansel and Gretel

Done for digital painting class. This was a very different approach to painting...I'm not too sure that I like the end result :s we were told to create the painting in greyscale first then adjust the colour balance of each level. Working this way made it very difficult for me to pick colours, so I'm not sure if I'll be trying this again anytime soon (maybe a variation on this approach)

Well here it is! I'm pretty sure everyone has this idea of doing the adorable little candy house in the middle of a creepy forest, heres my take on it :)

oh and I hope everyone is having a happy Family Day!! (I'm not sure if Ontario is the only place that has it, but hope I its going great for everyone whos got the long weekend!)

More Mermaids

drew some mermaids today for my character design assignment, then I started adding colour and it took over my day. I drew and coloured a whole bunch of other character concepts that i might post in a bit, so for now...here they are :) (the second one is my favorite!)

also, uploading these onto blogger really destroyed the colours :s the lines look really harsh and strange... hhmm.

Full Body Lip Synch

eeekk! I'm going through one of those "I suck!" weeks, so I haven't felt like posting anything! This is the only decent thing I feel Ive done in awhile, but I still cringe
every time I watch this.. :( hopefully I'll get out of this funk soon!!!
I'm going to animate another part of this song because animating stuff thats so overly enunciated is super fun :)
